Technical Lead Measurements

Technology and Operational Support (TOS) is responsible for technology development for primary production of aluminium. Hydro, as a world leader within aluminium production technology endlessly push the performance of the electrolysis technology towards world-leading low energy consumption and environmental footprint. The challenging work to develop, qualify and manage such technology is the responsibility of TOS. In Årdal, TOS has full-scale testing facilities as well as laboratories where we can bring ideas, theory and academic knowledge into technological solutions.
Overall objective and role
Support Technology Development and Operational Support moving towards data driven decisions. Secure and quality assure measurements and data flow to models and customers. Plan and ensure measurement campaigns are carried out according to SOP and in agreement with process owner. Ensure collaboration across units and lift competence with regards to procedures, equipment and HSE. Implement new solutions related to measurements, data analysis and visualization.

Responsibilities:
- Plan, coordinate and attend measurements and measurement campaigns at Årdal Test Center (ÅRC) and plants in Norway and abroad.
- Perform measurements according to SOP and process owner requirements, in close collaboration with the measurement team, Technology Development (TD) and Integrated Operational Support (IOSE).
- Coordinate requests of material sampling to be sent to our labs.
- Safe work-methods. Work safely, always look for improvements and share with team and plant.
- Manage large amount of data from a wide range of sources in a structured approach with a critical eye for failure sources, wrong/invalid data and related improvement potential. Make action plan to mitigate risks.
- Quality assure and post-process measured data, create visualizations and facilitate the scientific connection to other data sets or models to improve insights and understanding.
- Work close with domain experts and developers to accurately prepare detailed measurement reports and ensure that proper documentation is presented and communicated effectively.
- Be proactive in lifting competence, give training and develop/implement new applications/solutions in the field of measurement techniques, equipment, data treatment and visualization.
- Integrate the measurement group into the organization, facilitate and improve the communication across units and interfaces.
- Be a proactive part in transforming the Årdal Test Center to a center of excellence regarding measurements, operational follow-up and HSE.
- Ensure quality of measured data as input to our data bases and model portfolio.
Desired competencies:
- Ph.D. or M.Sc. Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Material Science or other relevant technology discipline.
- Experience and/or interest in measurement techniques, data analysis, practical implementations, verification of models and securing/lifting competence across the organization.
- Programming skills (e.g. Python, Matlab, Java-script) and data analytics skills (e.g. TDL/PowerBi) of advantage.
- Engineer with knowledge in mathematics, statistics, instrumentation or other relevant discipline.
- Excellent planning, communication and coordination skills.
- Works proactive, practical and structured, understands and applies AMBS, its principles and tools.
- Capable of simultaneously performing multiple tasks, taking own initiative, works independent (limited supervision), and delivers results under time pressure.
- Able to work in diverse teams.
- Fluent in English, orally and written.
- Flexible with respect to traveling.
